Have you ever tried to share with someone what God is like, or even how you know what God is like? Consider this description from the New Testament letter, Hebrews 1:3.

“The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.”

If you need a reminder that God is compassionate, powerful and wildly clever just look to Jesus. The scripture tells us that Jesus is the perfect model of God’s character and nature.

I don’t know about you but it comforts me in the world where I readily disappoint myself and others, and others readily discourage me, that there is a source of all goodness and justice waiting for me to draw close, like a child greets a parent returning from their day. Many places in the scriptures we are invited to choose where we put our attention. We are called to choose worship over idolatry with no equivocating! We are encouraged to think of beautiful and righteous things and to turn around from everything lesser.

When we do this it shapes us. So I encourage you now to take a moment to slow down, breathe and pray a simple prayer like: “Come Holy Spirit.” Or “Jesus I need You.”  Or “God show me your glory.” Soak in the truth that Jesus is sustaining all things. His glory is beyond words, and he loves you every moment of every day without end!

What’s coming up:

Be with Jesus:

  • Our Worship Gatherings this month will “Church in the Living Room” on Sundays at 10:30. We will begin a new book of the bible: Hebrews. It’s a wonderful New Testament letter which calls us to keep on keeping on in our faith journey and is packed full of definitive statements about the deity of Christ and his eternal kingdom. I hope you will join us. THIS WEEK DON’T COME TO OUR HOUSE because CHURCH IS AT LAUREN’S PLACE. Please plan to arrive a bit early so we can start out first worship song right at 10:30. We have to wrap things up on time this week so Lauren can make it to her next thing without delay.

Belong in Community:

  • MONDAY SMALL GROUP is up an running again at our house at 7:00pm. We had a great conversation and time of prayer last Monday at our house. We plan to meet weekly, however this week we won’t meet because my parents and Libby will be visiting and I want to soak up all the time we can together.
  • YOUTH GROUP will meet this Sunday, Oct 12, 6:00pm – 7:30pm at St. Stephens. Natalie will be leading and Clara is going to help out as well! This is going to be fun.

Bless Others:

Here’s a simple way we can keep this part of our mission going: Would you help St. Stephen’s restock their Blessing Bags supplies this week? They are serving a record number of families lately, sometimes up to 200 people on Fridays. Help by sending supplies
